Head of Bappenas received ANTARA interview regarding the IKN Development update, on Wednesday, April 7, 2021, virtually.
The Minister emphasized that the preconditions for the construction of the IKN to be carried out were control of the Covid-19 pandemic and the passing of the IKN Bill. This includes accelerating the vaccination process for the entire community.
The minister also explained that the construction of the IKN will be carried out with a mission to shift the center of gravity of the economy which has been in the western part of Indonesia (59% of GDP from Java, 22% of GDP from Sumatra, 91% of cargo from west to east, 75% of investment in Java and Sumatra, as well as 70% of universities accredited A in Java and Sumatra) in the direction of more equitable economic growth between regions.
In addition, economic activity in the IKN will be driven through the cooperation of three cities including IKN, Samarinda and Balikpapan which rely on future advanced sectors such as environmentally friendly manufacturing, integrated pharmaceuticals, sustainable agro-industry, advanced chemical manufacturing, environmentally friendly energy, and sustainable tourism.
The cooperation of the three cities is also strengthened by the development of other areas in East Kalimantan Province which will act as lungs to facilitate the development of the agricultural sector, agro-industry especially oleochemicals, as well as tourism based on ecotourism and fitness tourism.
The minister said, IKN will also simultaneously encourage the transformation of the economy of East Kalimantan Province so that it does not only rely on commodities, especially oil and gas.
The Minister also said that economic activities at IKN, Samarinda and Balikpapan would increase the GDP contribution of East Kalimantan Province.
“Various economic activities developed in cooperation with three cities and in other regions in East Kalimantan Province will increase the GDP contribution of East Kalimantan Province from around US $ 33 billion (4.3% of national GDP) in 2019 to US $ 180 billion (5). , 7% of national GDP) in 2045.
